Description
A prized herb in Traditional Chinese Medicine and favourite among athletes. Improves physical performance and reduces fatigue via increasing lung capacity, oxygen utilization and energy production.
Cordyceps came into the mainstream in 1993 during the Beijing Olympics after several Chinese runners attributed breaking world records to Cordyceps consumption. This ties in with the traditional knowledge on Cordyceps being a lung tonic and adaptogenic substance.
Cordyceps is said to tonify Yin Jing, Yang Jing and Qi. It nourishes both the kidneys and lungs and is an adaptogenic substance. As it is said to tonify both yin and yang Jing, it is considered a premium longevity tonic. As is the case with most of the Jing tonics, Cordyceps plays a role in improving sexual health when taken long term.
Adaptogens are substances that modulate our stress response, calming us down when we’re too elevated and perking us up when we’re too low. Each adaptogenic herb has its own nuances.
More recent research has found Cordyceps increases oxygen uptake by red blood cells and oxygen utilization in the mitochondria, enhancing ATP production.
